UQ Chess Club – Up and Running!

Good news everyone!
UQ Chess Club has been up and running again for some time.

UQ Chess Club In Receivership!

Due to the senior members of the chess club graduating or having to move on to other fancy grown-up things (e.g. work), the UQ Chess Club is now in receivership. If you know a group of friends who would like to come forward to take the club in a new direction, please contact uqchess@gmail.com so we can arrange a change of hands. The equipment is stored on campus and is easily accessible.

It has been a really good few years whilst we were all students and met lots of great players and friendly people – we hope you have just as much success as we did and continue the tradition! For the moment, we suggest you go to The Gap Chess Club (Friday nights), Cafe Checocho (Tuesday afternoons) or Brisbane Chess Club (Thursday nights) (see links in sidebar!) to scratch your chess itches. Alternatively, approach the UQ Games Club during market day this Wednesday and see what chess options are available there.

Thank-you all again for your attendance and we hope you keep playing the royal game for many years to come!

Human Chess – Games Night @ King George Square, Brisbane

Hello everyone!

A special event is happening in Brisbane this month and we hope to see you there.

“On 23 February 2012 a theatrical battle will take place on a life-sized Chess board in King George Square. The Black Fox will be recruiting human chess pieces to be molded into battle-ready fighters with battle-paint by Midnight Makeup.

We are seeking interested actors to show Brisbane your battle moves. If you are interested fill out our Chess Piece Register.

We also invite you to step up and lead these warriors into a chess battle by pre-registering to play by filling out the Register to Play Form.

Spectators come along and witness the triumphs and the tears of the Chess Battle.”

Important Announcement

Unfortunately due to a number of issues with the room and other exec work commitments, UQ Chess Club will not be unable to meet for the last two weeks of the semester.

We will however be looking for new members in the New Year so please come along to Market Day during Orientation week of Semester 1 of 2012!

If you would like to scratch your chess itch, there is always the Brisbane Chess Club (Woollongabba), Cafe Checocho (West End) and The Gap Chess Club (Nothside) which are still operating up until Christmas.

Again, we do apologize for any inconveniences caused and hopefully we see you again in the New Year.

NO CHESS TODAY (Friday, 2nd Sept.)

This weekend there is the Inter-college Chess Tournament being held as part of the annual Soiree. It is going to start at 8am at Duchesne college on Saturday the 3rd.

Since we have allowed the colleges to borrow all of our equipment for the event, we are forced to cancel our chess meeting today. We do apologise for such short notice but we only found out they could collect the boards on Thursday afternoon. As a result, we won’t have boards… and hence, our Friday meeting which will be deferred till next week.

Sorry for any inconvenience this has caused and we hope you receive this message in time. For future reference, it might be a good idea to check this website on the day of the meeting to check something like this doesn’t come up again (though unlikely, you can never be too sure!).

Change of room & time; starting THIS Friday 4-6pm!

Sorry about all of the confusion these last few weeks. We now have a proper room and set time. We will be sharing the room with the Chinese chess club *a special thanks to them for their help*.

UQ CHESS STARTS THIS THURSDAY!

We will be meeting every Thursday, between 4.00 to 6.00pm, in Room 141, Building 47A. We will be sharing the room with the Chinese Chess Club (a big thanks to them for their help!). It will just be a social gathering so we get to know those new members who joined on Market Day last week.
